Citrus Themed Fused Glass Heart

This Citrus Themed Glass Heart is a piece I designed and created in my home studio, where every step – from arranging the glass to firing it in my kiln – is done with intention and care. Inspired by the bright, fresh beauty of citrus fruits and the sunny days of Florida, this heart brings a cheerful touch of summer to your space.

In making this heart, I started with hand-selected pieces of glass and murrini shaped like oranges, lemons, and limes. Murrini are small, cross-sectioned slices of formed glass tubes, each revealing intricate patterns within, much like the segments of real citrus fruits. These delicate glass accents were carefully arranged in a heart-shaped mold alongside other vibrant pieces of glass. Heated to around 1500°F, the glass liquefied, flowing and melding into a vibrant, solid heart. As it cooled, the heart captured the intricate details of the citrus murrini, including their vibrant colors, delicate textures, and tiny bubbles reminiscent of sunlight dancing on a glass of fresh-squeezed juice. The final result finds beautiful orange, yellow, and green slices encased in clear glass.

The heart’s front is smooth and glossy, while the back has a light texture from the mold, giving it a unique, tactile quality. Measuring about 2 inches by 2 inches and weighing approximately 40 grams, this heart is a perfect size to keep close – whether in a pocket, on a nightstand, or on your desk as a cheerful reminder of someone special. It’s not designed as a paperweight but as a meaningful token of love, friendship, or connection. It is a unique piece and truly one of a kind.
